Jenny Brock

Jenny’s practice works mostly in the domain of painting and involves semi-abstract or surreal elements, so that her work is ambiguous and aims to be a personal experience. Her paintings evoke half-imagined landscapes and otherworldly vistas. The Romantic tradition heavily inspires Jenny’s work: Turner’s expressive layering, and Friedrich’s sublime atmospheres. However, she combines old and new by including contemporary creative techniques, such as dripping paint and creasing the canvas. This playful approach is integral to her work’s finished appearance and creates a relationship between process and representation; it coaxes images out of the results of exploration.
